A while back I posted a picture of the raw vegan strawberry jam on my Instagram. I am truly sorry for taking so long to share the recipe for it. If you are a jam lover like me, this recipe will change your life. No joke!
My love for jams started when I was a child. I remember spending countless hours in my grandma’s garden eating fresh strawberries and raspberries and then helping her can jam in the kitchen. Mmmm those were the days.
I have to admit I’ve never canned jam on my own. Probably because I don’t own proper canning equipment. To be honest, the whole process seems complicated to me.
So this recipe was a godsend.
As you can tell from the video, the recipe takes you about 5 minutes to make and it could not be any simpler. The hardest part is waiting for the jam to thicken! Sometimes I cheat and don’t wait an entire hour for the jam to set.
Shhh! It will be our little secret 😉
I love, love, love this jam. No exaggeration! It beats the highly-processed, sugar-filled store bought jam any day.
Why am I using chia seeds to make jam?
Apart from being ridiculously nutritious, chia seeds are also very useful in the kitchen. When chia seeds are mixed with water, they become “sticky” and expand up to 3 times the original size. They are often used for recipes that require a jelly-like consistency like jams and puddings.
Chia seeds are also a great substitute for eggs in vegan recipes.
When picking berries for your jam, I highly recommend getting organic strawberries.
Strawberries are a part of the Dirty Dozen list. Don’t worry! It’s nothing scandalous. Although some people might consider the amount of pesticide residues found on strawberries pretty scandalous.
If you can’t find any fresh organic strawberries, go ahead and use frozen berries for your jam. Simply thaw your strawberries prior to blending by letting them sit in a bowl for an hour at room temperature.
*Strawberry heaven*
Wouldn’t you agree?
Let me know if you try this recipe using different berries. So far, I’ve been making strawberry and raspberry jam this way. But I would imagine if you use blackberries or blueberries or mix a few different berries together, it will taste just as delicious!
If you want the jam to last longer, you can also freeze it. It will stay fresh in the freezer for a couple of weeks.
We usually finish the entire jar in 1-2 days. But it’s no biggie since this jam is so quick to make.
- 450 gr organic strawberries (about 1 lb)
- 3 tbsp chia seeds
- 3 tbsp lemon juice or water
- 3 tbsp agave/maple syrup/raw honey or 5-6 drops of liquid stevia
- Wash the strawberries and hull them using a straw. If using frozen strawberries, thaw by letting the berries sit in a bowl for an hour.
- Mash strawberries with a fork or blend in a food processor.
- Add agave, lemon juice and chia seeds to the mashed strawberries. Mix.
- Pour jam in a jar and place in the refrigerator for an hour to let the jam thicken up.
- Welcome to the strawberry jam heaven!

Thank you so much for this recipe! I have a question, how do you eat chia
and flax seeds? Do you ground them before eating them or do you think I can
eat them whole? I recently got both of the seeds, but I just don’t know
what is the best way to eat them or how to incorporate them into my diet.
Also, I read that is better not to cook with them… So many questions!
Please answer me! I’m going to make this recipe tomorrow.

Would you consider making a video on essential/must have ingredients in the
kitchen. For example I always see you use lots of coconut oil, maple syrup,
etc. it’d be nice to have an idea of basic foods/products that everybody
should have in their kitchen.

Does this recipe work if I use a blender or NutriBullet (or any other personal blender) instead of a food processor to mash the strawberries? I’ve been dying to try this recipe but I don’t have a food processor. 🙂 Thanks, hopefully you have the time to answer. 😊
